This Friday my Local Health Scrutiny Bill is given its second reading in the House of Commons. Many of you who are involved in local health campaigns across the country will no doubt have been frustrated about the unaccountable actions of local clinical commissioning groups (CCGs).
Currently CCG’s remain not only unaccountable to local groups such as local councils but to the very people they are meant to be serving, the public. CCG’s and their Chief Officers are taking life changing decisions about the future of our NHS services without the public being able to hold them accountable for their actions.
This has to stop and that’s why I’ve introduced my bill to change the law and bring in strict checks and balances so that the public can hold CCG’s to account for the decisions they are taking about the future of local services. It's our NHS and we have to fight for it.
