Joint statement from Gareth Snell MP, Ruth Smeeth MP, Cllr Mohammed Pervez, Cllr Amjid Wazir and Cllr Majid Khan

Some of you may be aware of the appalling campaign of anti-Muslim hate that is being peddled under the banner of ‘Punish a Muslim Day’.

People around the country have received letters inciting violence against them, and against their Muslim friends and neighbours.

This vile racism has no place in our society or in our city. Those who threaten our communities with violence and abuse are a disgrace and must be held accountable.

Our city’s motto is Vis Unita Fortior - ‘United strength is stronger’. We know that the people of Stoke-on-Trent will stand united now in saying no to racism and to anti-Muslim hate.

We stand in solidarity with all our communities here and across the country, and we urge anyone who receives one of these letters to contact the Police immediately.
