Gareth writes to Council Leader re Council Finances

Above is the letter that Ruth Smeeth MP and I wrote to Council Leader and Deputy Leader, Councillor Dave Conway and Councillor Abi Brown yesterday to express our concerns about the sorry state of the council’s finances.

Running a council budget is a difficult task under the current Conservative government’s determination to cut local government to the bone, but the Conservative-Independent coalition has been spending their reserves far faster than could be reasonably expected.

Their poor financial management has seen key services such as Adult Social Care and Children’s Services go over-budget and therefore are now at a significant financial risk, and we hope that Councillor Conway and Councillor Brown will now come forward with a plan in place to tackle the problem before our constituents end up suffering as a result of the poor financial management of the council.

I will keep you updated on the situation and will always fight to protect the local services that matter to my constituents.
