Last week I visited a foodbank in Bentilee supported by St. Stephen's Church. It was difficult to see how many families are struggling with feeding their children during the holidays. During the first week of the holidays it fed nearly 70 children.
The aim of this food bank is to make sure that children are getting at least one hot meal per week. Tragically, foodbanks have become part of our community, not only offering food but also games and crafts so that the children and parents could interact with others.
I'm so very grateful for those donating their time and food to the foodbank. But in the 21st Century, in a rich country like Britain, the fact that so many families are so close to the financial cliff is a tragedy and a national disgrace.
