Gareth sponsors Absentee Landlords Bill

I know from the casework that my offices receives, regulation of private landlords is something of great concern to many local constituents. While the majority of private landlords are excellent and provide a good service to their tenants we know this isn't universal. That is why I have sponsored a ten minute rule bill (Private member's bill) put forward by Phil Wilson MP to change the law to ensure that all Private Landlords are registered with their local authority.

It will mean absent private landlords can't simply allow properties to fall into disrepair, ignore issues of pest control or dealing with anti-social behaviour of some tenants. If the local authority and police can simply and quickly access information of the landlord these issues can be dealt with swiftly and save the public money.
