Gareth raises new concerns over police and fire merger

Story_152.jpg

On Monday I raised the issue of Conservative plans to merge the police and fire services in Staffordshire in the House of Commons.

As many of you will know from my previous posts, I am wholeheartedly against the proposal from the local Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner to take over the Fire Service. I believe that the commissioners plan to 'rationalise both police and fire service estates' will lead to the closure of police stations, that savings will mean job losses and fewer firefighters.

Sadly, despite the cross party support of councillors on Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council against the move and with no tangible public support the Minister continues to bury his head in the sand.
