This afternoon I raised the tragic case of my constituent Geoffrey Elwell with the Prime Minister.
In October 2016, Geoffrey was transitioned from DLA to PIP last year and after a new application was considered he lost the support he desperately needed. In June, Geoffrey passed away waiting for his appeal to be heard. Just two days later, after he died, his appeal was heard and he his support was posthumously reinstated in full and back dated from January.
Today I asked the Prime Minister what her message she thought I should pass onto Geoffrey's partner Carol. I'm afraid her answer of warm words of condolence won't change a failing system that is penalising some of the most vulnerable in our society. In this case, it won't take away the appalling stress placed upon Geoffrey and Carol when they should have been cherishing their final months together.
Geoffrey deserved so much better from this government. When he needed help, compassion & support, they abandoned him.
