This morning I met with Richard Williams, the FBU chairman for region seven (West Midlands area). We had a long and detailed discussion about some of the very real concerns facing our Fire Service and Fire Fighters.
We talked about the concerns about cuts to budgets and the ongoing challenges the service is facing, including the unwelcome attempts from the Police and Crime Commissioner to try and take over the Fire Service.
I am incredibly grateful for the work of the FBU and its members who are working on the front line in very difficult and often life threatening situations. I'll be continuing to do all I can to raise the concerns of Fire Fighters in the House of Commons. It's time this government started to listen to the professionals, doing a dangerous job to keep us safe.
