On Saturday afternoon I joined thousands of Trade Union and Labour Party activists and many others who took part in the TUC march on Saturday in London. The march was organised by the TUC to campaign for a 'new deal for workers and public services' that have been hit the hardest by austerity.
The TUC's own research has highlighted that the squeeze on the pay of ordinary workers is the worst in modern history and wage growth is at the slowest in two hundred years.
The weather stayed pleasant as we marched through London, but by the time we reached the rally point in Hyde Park we did get rather wet! However, spirits were not broken as we heard from many speakers including Jeremy Corbyn, call for a higher minimum wage and investment in our public services. It was a fantastic day, not just for the march and the rally, but the opportunity to speak to activists fighting for ordinary people across the country. There has never been a more important time to join a union and if you are already a member, why not considering being an active part of local campaigns and activities?
