Gareth Defends Bus Passes

Next month will mark the tenth anniversary of the English National Travel Concessionary Scheme. The TUC Midlands Pensioners Network is going to be celebrating this landmark with a tour of the Midlands. The group will be visiting North Staffordshire on the 13th of April and the timetable for the day is listed below.

But why is it so important that we support the day? In recent election campaigns there has been speculation that there should be changes to the scheme. Some have argued that it should be means tested or even removed. I strongly disagree, I believe that the scheme has not only been an economic success, but it has ensured independence for many pensioners, not only in Stoke-on-Trent, but across the country.

As your MP I will continue to defend the scheme and fight to keep it as a universal benefit available to all.
