Gareth appointed to Public Accounts Committee

Story_40.jpg

Over the last couple of weeks Parliament has been deciding upon who will Chair and the membership of those important committees that ensures Parliament and the scrutiny of government policy runs effectively.

I am pleased to have been chosen to sit on the Public Accounts Committee. This committee ‘scrutinises the value for money—the economy, efficiency and effectiveness—of public spending and generally holds the government and its civil servants to account for the delivery of public services'.

The Public Accounts Committee is well known for the robust defence of public money and in the past has been at the forefront of highlighting and investigating tax evasion. At a time when our public services are under financial constraints, it is more important than ever to ensure everyone is paying their fair share of taxes. I will of course keep you updated with important items on the agenda and report back on my activities. I’m excited by the challenge ahead and grateful for the confidence show in me to sit on such a prestigious committee.
